Until then, here's some draft feedback:
- localizations: as discussed, we'll try hard to include and certify all
localizations that are contributed by the community. We have a
development task in the planning for doing that, but not finished yet.
This is also part of our ongoing efforts to better integrate the
community contributions.
- licensing/copyright: after investigating the feedback you gave on AGPL
we still think it's the correct way to go, and we'll make sure it does
not backfire on the customers of our partners/community. If that
ultimately requires asking contributors to gives us the copyright of
their code (so we can switch back to GPLv3 if AGPL eventually proves a
dead-end), we might even be ready to do it. Many other open source
projects do it, but we understand that the community could be upset
about it. BTW, do you have further feedback on such a possible move?
Note: We know about Google's denial of AGPL adoption, but they are
obviously biased and their official answer to complaints about this is
quite fuzzy and wavering (see for example http:// bit.ly/ afHX1r)
AGPL is gaining increasing adoption, and some important projects have
switched to it, such as Launchpad itself, to name but one.
Sourceforge.net reports 500+ projects already under AGPl, and that's not
even correct metrics.
- scalability/performance: v6 is improving quite a lot in this area, but
don't hesitate to post bugs and patches if you have some. We're striving
to consider/evaluate all contributions, really. (see also contribution
guidelines on doc.openerp.com). Do you have a testcase or bug report for
the concurrency performance issues you mentioned?
- bugs: we'll improve our processes to ensure bugs are handled and
marked correctly, but we'll also ask for more participation of the
community as soon as the new website is ready and explains the community
processes better.
As for the specific Accounting (year closing) bug we discussed with
Dimitri, this important fix has now been released, thanks for insisting
on it!
- driving community contributions focus: we've had a look at Plone and
other projects but would like to keep using the current tools instead of
multiplying the community platforms. So we'll try to introduce a system
based mostly on Launchpad, but with the same goal. This could happen
after the release of v6 and the new website.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything...
Mvg,
Olivier Dony
